Serey Die was overcome with emotion during Ivory Coast's national anthem at the ‪#‎WorldCup‬

Serey Die was in tears when the Ivory Coast national anthem was played ahead of his nation's clash with Colombia. 

Rumours grew rapidly after full time that Die had been informed of the death of his father just hours before the game. 

The Guardian reported confirmation of the sad news.

But an Instagram post from Serey Die appeared to contradict it (h/t 101 Great Goals), with Die branding reports false, and adding (in French) that his father had in fact died in 2004.

He added that his reason for breaking down was down to the emotion of pride .
